MISSION WINS AS USF WOMEN REPEAT AS CHAMPS IN VALLEY INVITATIONAL

Riana Mission of the University of San Francisco women’s golf team claimed the individual title and led the way as the Dons captured the Valley Invitational presented by Chick-fil-a for the second straight year by one stroke over UC Davis at Bakersfield Country Club.

USF recorded a score of 304-287-306—897, 33-over-par, followed by UC Davis at 294-301-303—898, Grand Canyon 305-303-296—904, Sacramento State at 309-301-302—912 and Fresno State at 301-304-309—914.

“It was a tough day on the course and I am so proud of all the adversity that this team fought through to pull out the win,” USF Coach Sara Doell said. “To come back and defend our title and do it by one shot is an amazing experience for this team. 

“Riana played some solid golf, hit the ball better than she has all season and it paid off. I’m so excited for her to get her first college win. This is a great springboard for us as we head into some very tough fields on some challenging golf courses. 

“We have a few weeks to work on the things we need to as we prepare for the Causeway Invitational.”

Santa Clara was sixth at 311-304-302—917, while UC Riverside totaled 312-299-309—920 to tie for seventh with UC Irvine, which finished at 306-305-309—920, while Cal State Fullerton was ninth at 314-305-307—926, followed by Cal State Bakersfield at 318-305-311—934.

Utah Tech was 11th at 317-309-315—941, followed by Cal State San Marcos at 318-319-305—942 and Cal State Northridge at 321-317-319—957.

Mission, a sophomore from Las Vegas, carded a winning score of 77-71-71—219, three-over, while Madison Murr of Cal State San Marcus shot 75-76-69—220 to tie for second with Claire Choi of Santa Clara, who wound up at 73-77-70—220, and Abigail Leighton of UC Davis, who totaled 75-73-72—220, while Elvira Rastvortseva of UC Davis was fifth at 73-71-77—221.

Ryan Flynn of Grand Canyon was sixth at 73-77-72—222, while Jennifer Koga of Sacramento State finished at 77-73-73—223 to tie for seventh with Nicola Kaminski of Fresno State, who totaled 72-77-74—223, Malia Nam of USC, who shot 76-72-75—223, and Harriet Lynch of Fresno State, who came in at 73-75-75—223.

Davina Xanh led Cal State Fullerton in a tie for 11th at 76-72-76—224, Sarah Mutai of Cal State Bakersfield tied for 13th at 76-74-75—225, Tiffany Le of UC Riverside was 18th at 78-76-73—227, Megan Yang of UC Irvine tied for 19th at 80-73-75—228, Gracie Piar of Cal State Northridge tied for 40th at 79-77-79—235, and Breann Horn of Cal State San Marcos tied for 50th at 81-79-78—238.

Rounding out the scoring for team champion USF were Hannah Zeman, who shot 76-71-78—225 to finish in a tie for 13th that included Dons teammate Toni Sottile, who finished at 74-73-78—225, while Eva Pett tied for 29th at 77-75-79—231, and Jade Siphomsay tied for 34th at 81-72-81—234.
