Mason Claims Third Straight Win, Leads Pomona-Pitzer to CLU Invitational Title

Jessica Mason of Pomona-Pitzer College in Claremont rallied in the final round to claim her third straight individual title and led the Sagehens to the team championship in the Cal Lutheran Regals Invitational at Moorpark Country Club.

Of course, winning is nothing new for Mason, who captured the 2022 Colorado State Girls Championship last year as a senior at Holy Family High in Westminster, Colo., and was a first team All-State and All-State Academic selection.

Mason who earlier this season won titles at The Whitney and the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Tournament 1, carded a winning score of 73-70—143, one-under-par, while Emily Chang, also of Pomona-Pitzer, was second at 72-73—145, and Catherine Batang of Menlo shot 73-74—147 to tie for third with Katelyn Vo of Pomona-Pitzer, who finished at 73-74—147.

Meredith McDougall of Westmont College finished with a score of 75-73—148 to tie for fifth with Federica Domecq Lacroze of Pomona-Pitzer, who wound up at 71-77—148, while Isa San Antonio of Menlo was seventh at 77-74—151, followed by Jett Legacion of Cal Lutheran at 77-77—154.

Sydnee Magpoc of Westmont shot 79-76—155 to tie for ninth with Claire Whisenant of Pomona-Pitzer, who came in at 77-78—155.

Rachel Aujero led Occidental College in a tie for 11th at 79-77—156, while Caroline Valle of Whittier College tied for 14th at 80-78—158, Brianna McNelly of Whitworth was 18th at 81-79—160, Emily Fisher of Pacific Lutheran tied for 29th at 89-78—167, Jordan Jenert of La Verne tied for 31st at 85-83—168, Tori Schuller of Linfield University tied for 42nd at 82-91—173, and Kaylee Jones of College of Idaho tied for 45th at 88-89—177.

Rounding out the scoring for team champion Pomona-Pitzer were Ottavia Lombardo in solo 13th at 74-73—157, and Kiara Todd in a tie for 24th at 82-83—165.

Pomona-Pitzer, which also captured The Whitney in its previous outing, recorded a winning score of 289-294—583, seven-over-par, while Menlo finished a distant second at 316-305—621, followed by Westmont at 316-308—624, Cal Lutheran at 318-307—625, and Occidental at 322-326—648.

Whittier was sixth at 334-322—656, followed by Whitworth at 337-330—667, Pacific Lutheran at 359-347—706, La Verne at 362-352—714 and Linfield at 387-375—762.
