David Lipsky finished off a great day for La Canada High.
The 31-year-old Lipsky, from La Canada Flintridge, shot 6-under-par 66 to win the TPC San Antonio Challenge at the Canyons on the Korn Ferry Tour by four strokes over Taylor Pendrith of Canada in San Antonio. Texas.
Lipsky’s fourth professional victory, including two on the European Tour, came about an hour after fellow La Canada High graduate Collin Morikawa won the Workday Charity Open in a playoff over Justin Thomas on the PGA Tour at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.
“It was funny, but last night after I shot 10-under (62), I was texting with Collin Morikawa a little bit,” said Lipsky, who also won the 2012 Handa Faldo Classic in Cambodia on the Asian Tour. “We’re both from the same hometown and went to the same high school. We both told each other to take care of business today.
“And I just saw he won in a playoff, which is pretty amazing. …We actually practiced at the same golf course at Los Angeles together. I knew him in college when he was a stud at California and obviously he has done amazing things since then.
“It’s my first win as a professional in the United States which is really important to me.
This is where I want to play. …I’ve always wanted to come back and play in the United States. Obviously, this is home.”
Lipsky, who graduated from Northwestern in 2011, posted a winning score of 69-66-62-66—263, 25-under, while Pendrith finished at 67-69-65-66—267, and Paul Haley II shot 67-70-67-64—268 to tie for third with Paul Barjon of France, who finished at 69-64-65-70—268.
David Skinns of England was fifth at 69-70-66-64—269, while Roberto Diaz of Mexico wound up at 71-64-70-65—270 to tie for sixth with Ryan McCormick, who came in at 69-67-67-67—270.
Kristopher Ventura of Norway shot 68-66-69-68—271 to tie for eighth with Ollie Schneiderjans, who shot 66-71-66-68—271, Adam Svensson of Canada, who finished at 70-68-65-68—271, and Lee Hodges, who wound up at 68-67-67-69—271.
