Erynne Lee finished third and helped UCLA tie for second in the All-State Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in chilly conditions at English Turn Golf & Country Club in New Orleans.
Madelene Sagstrom of team champion LSU shot 68-73-71–212, 4-under-par, and tied for medalist honors with teammate Caroline Nistrup, who finished at 71-70-71–212, and Lee was third at 74-69-72–215.
“It’s important for us to have Erynne consistently shoot low scores,” Coach Carrie Forsyth said. “She’s a great player, one of the best in the country, so it’s always crucial that she can go out there and play at her best.”
LSU claimed the team title at 284-304-286–874, 10-over, and UCLA posted a score of 292-297-297–886 to tie for second with Florida, which totaled 297-301-288–886.
The Bruins have finished in the top 10 in all six of their tournaments this season and were tied for the lead with LSU heading to the back nine of the final round, but the Tigers were able to pull away.
“We had an opportunity to win, but we kind of struggled toward the end,” said Lee, a senior from Silverdale, Wash. “But overall, it wasn’t too bad of a performance for our team.”
Fourth-ranked UCLA put five players in the top 20, with sophomore Bronte Law of England shooting 71-78-74–223 to finish in a tie for 12th that included teammate Lydia Choi, a freshman from Beverly Hills, who wound up at 74-71-78–223.
Freshman Erin Choi of Torrance finished at 74-74-77–225 and tied for 17th with Bruin teammate Louise Soderstrom, a junior from Sweden, who came in at 75-76-74–225.
Freshman Aliea Clark of Carlsbad rounded out the UCLA scoring in a tie for 51st at 73-81-83–237.
