Crocker leads USC victory at Valencia

Sean Crocker of USC shared medalist honors and led the fourth-ranked Trojans to their third victory of the season in the Jones Athletic Invitational at Valencia Country Club.

Crocker, a freshman from Westlake Village, posted his fourth top-five finish of the season with a score of 69-73-66–208, 8-under-par, to tie Zach Seabolt of Winthrop University, who finished at 73-65-70–208.

“Sean Crocker has had an incredible freshman year so far and I expect bigger and better things as we go forward,” USC Coach Chris Zambri said.

USC displayed its depth as sophomore Rico Hoey of Rancho Cucamonga finished fourth at 70-72-71–213, freshman Jonah Texeira of Porter Ranch tied for sixth at 70-70-75–215 and junior Bobby Gojuangco of San Diego tied for 11th at 68-75-73–216..

David Kim of UC Irvine was fifth at 72-70-72–214, Michael Pugh of Fresno State tied for sixth at 76-64-75–215, Byron Meth of Pacific tied for 11th at 75-68-73–216, Kevin DeHuff of Pepperdine tied for 16th at 72-72-74–218 and Alex Chiarella led the University of San Diego in solo 26th at 73-75-73–221.

USC posted a winning score of 277-288-285–850, followed by Kennesaw State at 282-

289-295–866 and Northwestern at 288-290-292–870.

“I’m really happy for our team and our program,” Zambri said “We have big goals this year and in order to achieve them we have to win. We have to know what it feels like to win and we have to have the skill to win. This event was great for us in that sense.”

Pepperdine finished sixth at 297-287-295–879, San Diego was ninth at 295-297-295–

887, UC Irvine wound up 10th at 299-287-304–890, Fresno State came in 11th at 301-

289-303–893 and Pacific was 13th at 303-299-299–901.
