Jay Morrish dies at 78

Jay Morrish, a past president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, died at the age of 78 at his home near Dallas after suffering from heart problems the last few years.

Morrish was on the design team for such courses as Spyglass Hill Golf Course in Pebble Beach; Loch Lomond Golf Club in Dunbartonshire, Scotland; Stone Canyon Golf Club in Oro Valley, Ariz.; TPC Scottsdale; TPC Four seasons Las Colinas in Dallas; Troon Golf and Country Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., and Forest Highlands Golf Club in Flagstaff, Ariz.

“Jay Morrish was a stalwart who was admired by everyone,” ASGCA president Lee Schmidt said in a release. “As an architect, he positively influenced the world of golf-course design.”

Morrish became a member of the ASGCA member in 1989 and served as president in 2002-03.
