Jaxson de Ville takes down Jim Furyk

Jacksonville Jaguars fans have not had much to cheer about this season, but Sunday during halftime at EverBank Field they did.

Jaxson de Ville, the Jaguars mascot, took on Jim Furyk in a closest-to-the-pin contest and beat the 2003 U.S. Open champion.

Because of Jaxson’s victory, the Jaguars Foundation donated $1,000 to a charity of Furyk’s choice and every fan in attendance received a complementary order of Papa John’s cheesesticks.

Had Furyk won, the Jaguars Foundation would have donated $10,000 to a charity of his choice, and if either of them had made a hole-in-one, a lucky fan would have won $1 million.

Jaxson and Furyk each hit a 125-yard shot from the Sky Patio in EverBank Field’s south end zone to an island green, resembling the famous 17th hole on the Stadium Course at nearby TPC Sawgrass, which was set up at midfield.

The contest takes place at every Jaguars home game this season, and so far Jaxson has beaten Furyk and Mark McCumber while losing to Matt Kuchar, Billy Horschel, Bud Cauley and David Lingmerth.

The Buffalo Bills beat the Jaguars, 27-20, on Sunday, meaning Jaxson has won more at home this year than the Jags.
