Jacob Wins SCGA Women’s Amateur by 2 Shots

Jaime Jacob of Encinitas captured the sixth Southern California Golf Association Women’s Amateur Championship by two strokes over Briana Chacon of Whittier at Goose Creek Golf Club in Mira Loma.

Jacob, who won 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship for Cal State San Marcos, posted a score of 64-70-69—203, 13-under-par, breaking the tournament record by four strokes, followed by Chacon at 68-65-72—205, and Kailie Vongsaga of Diamond Bar at 67-70-71—208.

A three-time winner for Cal State San Marcos before the Coronavirus pandemic ended her senior season, Jacob claimed the title by making birdies on the 13th 14th, 15th and 18th holes in what she said was her final amateur event before turning pro.

Jacobs also was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Athlete of the Year after winning the 2019 CCAA individual title, is a three-time Division II first team All-American and was selected 2020 San Diego Sports Association Amateur Star of the Year.

Angelina Kim of Los Angeles shot 71-68-71—210 to tie for fourth with Caroline Canales of Calabasas, who finished at 73-70-67—210, while Zoe Campos of Valencia wound up at 75-67-69—211 to tie for sixth with Meghan Royal of Carlsbad, who came in at 70-70-71—211.

Kate Villegas of Arcadia carded a score of 73-72-67—212 and tied for eighth with Hailey Boria of Wake Forest, who finished at 73-70-69—212, and Beth Lillie of Fullerton was 10th at 73-69-71—213.

Previous winners include Andrea Lee of Stanford, Lilia Vu of UCLA, Alexa Milton and Alyaa Abdulghany, both of USC.
