Samantha Hutchison of San Jose claimed the California Women’s State Championship by a whopping six strokes over Cindy Oh of Gardena and Bibilani Liu of Cupertino at Ojai Valley Inn and Spa.
Hutchinson, a senior at UC Davis who is the reigning Big West Conference Player of the Year, posted a score of 69-67-65—201, 15-under-par while Oh, who plays at Cal, finished at 74-69-64—207, and Liu, of Boston College, wound up at 66-74-67—207.
After making bogey on her first hole of the tournament, Hutchison played flawlessly over the last 53 holes while collecting 16 birdies, including seven in the final round.
Aman Sangha of San Mateo and Portland State was fourth at 67-72-71—210, while Nicole Schroeder of Rocklin and Oregon State shot 69-70-72—211 to tie for fifth with Caryn Wilson of Rancho Mirage, who totaled 73-68-70—211, and Saki Kinjo of San Diego, who came in at 67-69-75—211.
Alexandra Cooper of San Clemente and San Jose State was seventh at 70-71-71—212, followed by Madi Daniel of Bakersfield and Oregon at 71-72-71—214, while Nao Bando of Japan and Sierra College shot 70-73-73—216 to tie for ninth with Linna Yamauchi of Japan, who finished at 73-71-72–216.
Mina Hardin of La Quinta carded a score of 74-78-78—230 to capture the Senior Division by one stroke over Nanette Seman of Murrieta, who shot 75-79-77—231, and Eva Monisteri of Half Moon Bay totaled 85-75-78—238 to tie for third with Linda Pearson of Glendale, who wound up at 83-79-78—238.
Jamie Hoffman of Escondido was fifth at 79-79-81—239, followed by Linda Edelstein of Fallbrook at 84-82-80—246, while Desiree Banlowe of Thousand Oaks finished at 82-81-85—248 to tie for eighth with Sheri Hauck of San Luis Obispo, who came in 82-83-83—248.
Lynette Branch of Morro Bay was ninth at 89-87-79—255, followed by Jill Henry of Modesto at 87-88-91—266.
