Hu Defeats Goetschel By 1 Stroke in Rancho Santa Margarita Amateur

Joshua Hu of Yorba Linda captured the 2022 Rancho Santa Margarita Amateur Championship by one stroke over Chase Goetschel of Trabuco Canyon at Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita. 

Hu, a sophomore at San Diego State, carded a score of 71-71—142, 2-under-par, despite making a bogey on the final hole in the second round, while Goetschel finished at 73-70—143 by closing with eight straight birdies. 

Dylan Oyama of Carlsbad shot 72-74—146 to tie for third with Drew Jankowski of Santa Monica, who finished at 72-74—146, while Connor Campbell of Orange was fifth at 72-75—147.   

Austin Orkin of Long Beach totaled 78-70—148 to tie for sixth with Ryder Henares of Irvine, who wound up at 76-72—148, while Ty Macias of San Francisco wound up at 74-75—149 to tie for eighth with Dylan Block of Mission Viejo, who finished at 75-74—149, and Kyle Dougherty of Irvine at 72-77—149. 

Defending champion Christopher Chomyn, who plays at Reedley College, finished in a tie for 24th at 75-79—154.
