Grohs wins S.D. County Senior Am in playoff

Greg Grohs of Arcadia sank a 10-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to beat Bruce Lohman of Newport Coast and win the San Diego County Senior Amateur Championship presented by Callaway Golf at Aviara Golf Club in Carlsbad.

Grohs (pictured left) came from six strokes back in the final round and finished at 79-73—152, 8-over-par, while Lohman (right) finished at 75-77—152.

Jim Ream of Cerritos was third at 77-78—155, followed by defending champion Ed Susolik of Newport Beach at 81-75—156, Don Eklund of San Diego at 83-75—158 and Pete Wlodkowski of Carlsbad at 84-76—160.

Steve Cribari of La Quinta was sixth at 81-81—162, followed by Stephen Friend of Torrance at 83-83—166, Tom McKee of Carlsbad at 81-86—167, while Ken Knott of Los Angeles shot 83-85—168 to tie for 10th with Rick Meli of Delray Beach, Fla., who finished at 89-79—168, and David Oas of Carlsbad, who came in at 83-85—168.
