Gilman running away with California State Open

Chris Gilman of Yorba Linda continued his hot play at the California State Open, shooting 64 at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon a day after shooting 63. For a second day in a row, Gilman’s round was bogey-free and included two additional eagles on two front-nine par-fives.

Gilman’s comfortable seven-shot lead has two players trailing at 10-under, including co-first round leader Jeremiah Wooding of Riverside, who shot 71 on Thursday. Also at 10-under is Bakersfield native Stephen Hale — owner of back-to-back 67s.

Amateur Cory Gladstone of San Diego is tied for 11th place at 5-under, 139. 2013 Southern California PGA Professional Champion, Alan Scheer of Steele Canyon Golf Club, is currently the low PGA Professional at 3-under. Of the 168-player field, 60 players finished 1-over par or better to make the cut.

Round three will begin at 7:00 AM. Spectators are welcomed and admission is free.
