Megha Ganne of Stanford claimed the individual title and led the Cardinal to an eight-stroke victory over Arkansas to open the new season in the Women’s Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
Last year, Rose Zhang won the individual and led Stanford to the title.
Top-ranked Stanford led much of the way and posted a winning score of 352-354-359—1066, while Arkansas finished at 353-354-359—1066, followed by Texas A&M at 364-350-356—1070, Vanderbilt at 364-368-355—1087 and Mississippi State at 364-358-367—1089.
Oklahoma State was sixth at 370-363-367—1100, followed by Texas Tech at 371-364-370—1105 and Oklahoma at 387-370-368—1125.
Ganne, a sophomore from Holmdel, N.J., who finished second to Zhang in the Carmel Cup last year, won this time with a score of 66-68-67—201, while Maria Jose Marin of Arkansas was second at 67-70-68—205, followed by Julia Lopez Ramirez of Mississippi State at 71-68-70—209, while Lauren Zaretsky of Texas Tech shot 68-69-73—210 to tie for fourth with Adela Cernousek of Texas A&M, who finished at 70-69-71–210.
Paula Martin Sampedro of Stanford shot 70-67-74—211 to tie for sixth with Savannah Barber of Oklahoma, who totaled 68-70-73—211, and Zoe Slaughter of Texas A&M, who wound up at 74-69-68—211.
Maddison Hinson-Tolchar of Oklahoma State finished at 74-68-70—212 to tie for ninth with Tillie Claggert of Vanderbilt, who came in at 70-71-71—212.
Rounding out the scoring for team champion Stanford were Kelly Xu in solo 12th at 73-72-69—214, Sadie Englemann in a tie for 19th at 73-73-71—217, Rachel Heck in a tie for 22nd at 70-74-75—219, and Caroline Sturdza in a tie for 28th 75-76-71—222.
Top-ranked Stanford plays next in The Big Match against arch-rival California at Menlo Country Club on Sept. 28, and plays its next tournament in the Stephen’s Cup on Oct. 9-11 at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas, Texas.
