Funk, Sluman win Legends of Golf

Fred Funk and Jeff Sluman birdied five holes on the back nine to post a bogey-free 6-under-par 48 on the par-3 course at Top of the Rock Golf Course in Ridgedale, Mo., and win the Champions Division of the Big Cedar Lodge Legends of Golf by one stroke over Peter Jacobsen and Jay Haas.

Sluman won the tournament for the second year in a row, having teamed with Brad Faxon last year.

Haas and Jacobsen, the 36-hole leaders, also made five birdies on the back nine to total seven in all, but had fallen behind with bogeys on the second, fourth and eighth holes.

Craig Stadler and Kirk Triplett finished six shots back in third after a 54, followed another shot behind by Kenny Perry and Russ Cochran, who had a 49.

Jim Colbert and Jim Thorpe combined for five birdies to capture the Legends Division title by three strokes over Bruce Fleisher and Larry Nelson with a 4-under 23 in the nine-hole finale. Fleisher and Nelson closed with a 26.

Graham Marsh and John Bland shot 24 and tied for third, five stroke back, with Butch Baird and Al Geiberger, who had a 25. Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus were another shot back in sixth after a 26.
