Shanshan Feng of China fired a 4-under-par 67 to take a two-stroke lead over Michelle Wie and Inbee Park of South Korea into the final round of the Manulife LPGA Classic at Grey Silo Golf Course in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
Feng, who has won three times on the LPGA Tour including the 2012 LPGA Championship, actually had a four-stroke lead on the back nine before carding her first bogey of the tournament on the 16th hole and settling for a par-5 on the finishing hole.
“I had a lot of birdie chances on the back nine and kept mis-reading them, just missing by a little bit,” Feng said. “But the pins were tough, and maybe tomorrow the putts will be falling.
“I’ve been playing well this week and I’ll try to stay patient and do it again tomorrow. I’m just going to go for it.”
Park, who lost the No. 1 spot in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings to Stacy Lewis at the beginning of the week, recorded a bogey-free 65, while Wie had a 68 despite making bogeys on two of her first three holes.
Cristie Kerr shot a 65 that included five birdies on the back nine and was three shots back in third, while 17-year-old Lydia Ko of New Zealand, who can be No. 1 with a victory, fired a 64 and was another stroke behind in a tie for fourth with Anna Nordqvist of Sweden, who came in at 65.
Lewis, coming off her victory in the ShopRite LPGA Classic, posted a 68 and was tied for 18th.
