Jason Dufner, a graduate of Auburn who has made his home in Auburn, Ala., is playing this week in the Northwestern Mutual World Challenge at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif., which presents a problem for the die-hard Tigers’ football fan.
Auburn, after miraculous victories over Georgia and Alabama in the last few weeks, is playing Missouri on Saturday in the Southeastern Conference Championship Game in Atlanta, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m. EST.
The third round of the World Challenge is not expected to end until about 6 p.m.
In an effort to solve his problem, Dufner playfully took to Twitter the other day and sent a message to Tiger Woods, tournament host of the World Challenge, which benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation.
“Dear Mr @TigerWoods I petition the event this week to play 36 holes Thurs and Friday, so I can watch my beloved Auburn play for SEC champ thx,” Dufner tweeted.
Not only would have that have allowed Dufner, who has been adopted by the Auburn players, to watch the game, he could have flown to Atlanta and seen the game in person at the Georgia Dome.
Woods was quick to respond. “@JasonDufner Petition denied,” he tweeted back.
Perhaps Dufner can petition a high authority and pray for rain.
