Dell, the computer company, signed a four-year agreement to become title sponsor of the World Golf Championships-Match Play Championship beginning next season, the International Federation of PGA Tours announced.
The 2015 WGC-Cadillac Match Play Championship will be played this year at TPC Harding Park (pictured) in San Francisco from April 29-May 3, with Jason Day of Australia defending the title he won last year at Dove Mountain in Marana, Aria.
“The Match Play has a tremendous future with Dell as the incoming title sponsor, the event’s move to Austin (Texas) and the new round-robin format that is being introduced this year,” Commissioner Tim Finchem of the PGA Tour said.
” … We extend our sincere appreciation to a great World Golf Championships partner in Cadillac for taking on the Match Play sponsorship this year, while continuing its strong commitment to the Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral.”
Cadillac stepped in for one year when Accenture dropped out after sponsoring the tournament since 2001.
Next year, the tournament will move to a course to be selected near Austin, Texas, where Dell’s headquarters are located.
The tournament will be renamed the World Golf Championships-Dell Match Play and will be played the week of March 21-27, 2016.
Dell, which has major sports sponsorship experience with Formula 1 and America’s Cup, is making its first foray into golf.
