Chomyn Wins Rancho Santa Margarita Am

Christopher Chomyn of Irvine made par on the first playoff hole to turn back Ryder Henares, also of Irvine, and capture the Rancho Santa Margarita Amateur in windy conditions at Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita.

Chomyn, who plays at Reedley College, posted a score of 67-76—143, 1-under-par, while Henares finished at 71-72—143.

“It’s been a long time coming,” said Chomyn, whose last victory came in the 2017 AJGA Patrick Reed Insperity Invitational in Houston.

Kory Frost of Trabuco Canyon shot 75-70—145 to tie for third with Charles Yoo of Foothill Ranch, who wound up at 71-74—145, and Ryder Epson of Long Beach, who totaled 69-76—145.

Defending champion Jackson Rivera of Rancho Santa Fe was sixth at 70-76—146, followed by Forbes Collins of Lake Forest at 73-75—148, while Vedanth Gaitonde of Carlsbad finished at 76-73—149 to tie for eighth with Connor Campbell of Orange, who came in at 73-76—149, and Joseph Chun or Irvine was 10th at 77-73—150.
