WYNTK
Some of us can remember back in 1991 when Callaway introduced the original Big Bertha driver and of course there have been updates subsequently including the numerous versions and variations like the Great Big Bertha Epic five years ago. Callaway (now TopGolf Callaway Brands Corp. NYSE: MODG) has transitioned the brand again into the ultra-premium end of the market and added some impressive technology.

The driver is ultra-light, 30g less than their Rogue ST MAX and this encourages it to be swung faster which can produce added yards. The positioning of weight of the titanium head because of the ample use of carbon in the crown and sole results in the center of gravity being low and deep in the head, very useful for producing a higher ball trajectory for more carry distance. The Jailbreak Speed Frame is also back. Its function is to increase face stability at impact and provide more ball speed over a larger area of the low spin-design face.

The GBB fairway woods use the internal weight Jailbreak design with “batwings” seen first in the Rogue ST fairway woods from last year. Launch characteristics were also helped with the use of a 50g of tungsten inside the head plus a 15g steel sole plate. Hybrids of the family use a similar weighting plan plus they have been reshaped with added camber to help with turf contact and difficult lies.
