Michael Block, PGA pro at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo earned a spot in the Farmers Insurance Open this week at Torrey Pines in La Jolla by winning the Southern California PGA’s Aggregate Series-FIO event at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club in Rancho Santa Fe.
Block, who captured the SCPGA Section Championship in September, posted a score of 7-under par 65 to win by four strokes over Cory Scroggins of The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Ryan Kennedy of Rustic Canyon Golf Club in Moorpark and Ron Skayhan of Hillcrest Country Club in Los Angeles, who all shot 69.
It will be Block’s 11th appearance in a PGA Tour event and also has played in three major championships. He also won the 2014 PGA National Club Professional Championship,
Mike Nokes of Stadium Golf Center in San Diego finished fifth at 70, while Kenny Pigman of Goose Creek Golf Club in Mira Loma totaled 71 to tie for sixth with Brett Mormann on El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana and Chris Gilley of La Quinta Country Club.
Brian Smock of Coronado Golf Course carded a score of 72 to tie for ninth with Jerry Crowell of Goose Creek Golf Club, Scott Mallory of the Journey at Pechanga in Temecula, Vinnie Poncino of San Clemente Golf Club, Tim Parun of Coronado Golf Course, Rick Garboski of Golf Development Complex in Moorpark and David Franks of Calabasas Golf and Country Club.
