Pro Michael Block and Jillian Braverman of Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo captured the Southern California PGA’s National Car Rental Professional-Lady Championship for the second straight year at Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes Estates.
Block and Braverman, who claimed the title last year at Industry Hills Golf Club, posted a score of 6-under par 65 under the Pinehurst format to win by three strokes in the first SCPA tournament of the wraparound season to give Block the early lead in the OMEGA Player of the Year point standings.
Jim Detrixhe and Akeim Khaiat of Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades were second at 68, followed by James Prestella and Kathy Kurata of Friendly Hills Country Club in Whittier at 69.
Chris Miller, who made a hole in one at No. 2, and Rebecca Halpern of Hillcrest Country Club shot 70 to tie for fourth with Mark Wilson and Linda Pearson of Oakmont Country Club in Glendale, Jae Suh and Cathy Longean of Spanish Hills Golf and Country Club in Camarillo, and Mike Fergin and Kim Izzi of Mesa Verde Country Club in Costa Mesa.
Thomas Chu and Mega Okura of Valencia Country Club totaled 71 to tie for eighth with Chi Choi and Debbie Kim of Monarch Beach Golf Links in Dana Point, Michael Mendoza and Heidi Person of Pauma Valley Country Club, and Mike van der Goes and Judy Duclos of Saticoy Country Club in Somis.
