Curdt claims SCPGA Women’s Section title

Alison Curdt of Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley captured the Southern California PGA Women’s Section Championship for the second time in three years at Avondale Golf Club in Palm Desert.

Curdt, who also took the title in 2015, rallied with three birdies on the back nine and finished with a score of 69-69—138, 6-under-par, to win by three strokes and wrap up SCPGA Women’s Player of the Year Award for the second straight season.

Erica Ilagan of SeaCliff Country Club in Huntington Beach finished second at 71-70—141, followed by Sara Ovadia of the River Course at the Alisal in Solvang at 70-72—142, defending champion of Lehua Wise of Hideaway Golf Club in La Quinta at 77-68—145, Jacqueline Riegle of Monarch Beach Golf Links in Dana Point at 73-76—149 and Ronnie Valerio of Tustin Ranch Golf Club at 71-79—150.

Yumi Chung of Whittier Narrows Golf Course in Rosemead shot 79-72—151 to tie for seventh with Heather King of Carmel Mountain Ranch in San Diego, who totaled 78-73—151, while Bari Brandwynne of Los Angeles Country Club was ninth at 76-79—155 and Dale Shaw of La Quinta at 83-74—157.

Curdt, who in September tied for fourth in the SCPGA Section Championship and became the first female from the section to qualify for the PGA Professional National Championship, also earned an exemption into the 2017 SoCal Women’s Cup Matches on Dec. 7-8 at Mission Hills Country Club in Ranch Mirage.

Others who qualified for the Cup Matches are Brandwynne, Ilagan, Ovadia, King, Riegle, Chung and Valerio.
