Bergen Benedict of Turlock rallied in the final round to win the Big Sur Flight of the 14th annual Northern California Golf Association Women’s Net Amateur Championship by two strokes over Kayla Choy of San Francisco at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.
Benedict, a senior at Cal State San Marcos, recorded a score of 74-74—147, 5-over-par, collecting four birdies in the final round to top the flight for players with handicaps of 14 and under.
First-round leader Choy finished second at 72-77—149, followed by Caroline Clements of Carmel at 76-76—152 and Katie Kaminski of Los Gatos at 80-73—153.
Rhonda Mohr of Carmel shot 77-78—155 to tie for fifth with Jine Liu of Sacramento, who also finished at 77-78—155, while Maureen Earley of Los Altos was seventh at 73-83—156.
Linda Delong of Sacramento wound up at 78-79—157 to tie for eighth with Pam Fadel of Pebble Beach, who totaled 75-82–157, and Victoria Johnston of Napa was 10th at 80-79—159.
Jenny Liu of San Martin won the Golden Gate Flight (handicaps of 14.5 to -20.5) at 68-71—139, followed by Tina Chen of Saratoga at 70-70—140, Angela Lee of San Jose at 75-69—144, and Alicia Meiners of San Benito at 72-73—145.
Amy Harris of Dublin shot 76-75—151 to tie for fifth with Maureen Richardson of San Ramon, who finished at 71-80—151, while Kari Vadnais of Berkeley was seventh at 73-79—152, followed by Stacy Brown of Santa Cruz at 78-76—154, Stacey Baba of Saratoga at 81-74—155, and Cathy Pementell of Oakland 78-80—158.
Joyce Glatt of El Cerrito won the Yosemite Flight (handicaps of 20.6 and above) in a four-way playoff.
Glatt finished at 72-79—151, while Patty Van Kirk of Novato shot 78-73—151 to earn the second place medal and Sandra Castle of Monterey totaled 71-80—151 to take the third-place prize. Linda Tague of Pleasant Hill also finished in the tie at 75-76—151.
Bridget Wilson of Sonoma was fifth at 77-75—152, followed by Michelle Gunner of Petaluma at 78-76—154, while Cindie Young of Burlingame totaled 84-71—151 to tie for seventh with Kim Zakar of Concord, who wound up at 72-73—155.
Stephanie Krist of San Rafael was ninth at 77-81—158, followed by Loralee Del Rosario of Berkeley at 75-85—150.
