Barracuda Moving to Old Greenwood

Barracuda Networks has re-upped as title sponsor of the Barracuda Championship and the PGA Tour event is moving to a new venue in the Reno-Lake Tahoe area next summer.

The 22nd edition of the Barracuda Championship will be played on July 2-5, 2020, at Tahoe Mountain Club’s Old Greenwood Golf Course www.oldgreenwood.com, which is a Jack Nicklaus Signature Design that is located in Truckee, Calif.

The tournament will continue to be contested under the Modified Stableford scoring system.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be back as the title sponsor and to continue the PGA Tour’s tradition of giving back to the communities it plays in,” said BJ Jenkins, president and CEO of Barracuda.

“This year is on track to be our best and most exciting competition yet. The tournament brings together several of golf’s top performers to compete in one of the most spectacular settings, and provides the opportunity to bring our best customers, partners and friends to the exceptional Reno-Tahoe community to share this experience with us.”

Barracuda, a tech company located in the San Francisco Bay Area which has been title sponsor of the tournament since 2014, has signed a new multi-year contract.

Tahoe Mountain Club’s Old Greenwood Golf Course (pictured), which opened in 2004, is nestled in the Sierra Nevada mountains on 600 acres of forest and meadowland at nearly 6,000 feet above sea level.

“Behind the scenes, we were very confident about securing a new home and Barracuda’s continued support of an event that has been on the PGA Tour schedule since 1999,” Tournament Director Chris Hoff said.

“We are thrilled to once again partner with Barracuda and thank them as we embark on this new chapter in tournament history. In our search for a new PGA Tour tournament venue, the Old Greenwood Golf Course at Tahoe Mountain Club stood out from the beginning, which says a lot about the location and the course.

“We are truly looking forward to this new chapter.”

The tournament, which previously was played at Montreux Golf and Country Club in Reno, Nev., was won last season by Collin Morikawa of La Canada Flintridge and the University of California, after Andrew Putnam of Pepperdine claimed the title a year earlier.

Other winners of the tournament include Gary Woodland, John Cook, Notah Begay III, Scott Verplank, Kirk Triplett, Steve Flesch, Geoff Ogilvy of Australia, J.J. Henry and Parker McLaughlin.
