Abegail Arvalo of the Philippines ran away with the 23rd California State Women’s Fair Championship by a whopping seven strokes over Marni Murez of Manhattan Beach and Franziska Freidrich of Germany at Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course in Sacramento.
Arevalo, a junior at San Jose State, recorded a score of 70-65—135, 7-under-par, after losing out to Vanessa Ha of Oak Park and the University of San Francisco by one stroke in the tournament last year.
Murez, a junior at Santa Clara, totaled 69-73—142, to share second with Freidrich, a junior at San Jose State, who wound up at 71-71—142.
Ariell Swan of Sunnyvale and Cal State East Bay was fourth at 70-73—143, while Alexa Clark of Richland, Wash., shot 70-74—144 to tie for fifth with and Nao Bando of Japan, the 2018 California Community College champion at Sierra College, who wound up at 74-70—144.
Alexandra Cooper of San Clemente and San Jose State carded a score of 72-73—145 to tie for seventh with Karen Garcia of Auburn, who shot 74-71—145, while Madison Wood of Thousand Oaks and UC Davis totaled 73-73—146 to tie for ninth with Yoonhee Kim of San Ramon and UC Davis, who came in at 74-72—146.
Cynthia Stefani of Sacramento totaled 69-69—138 and won the Senior Flight in a playoff over Charlotte Wells, also of Sacramento, who finished at 72-68—138.
Deidre Wentworth of Sacramento was third at 70-76—146, while Debra Hopson, also of Sacramento, shot 74-73—147 to tie for third with Vicki Philpott, yet another player from Sacramento, who wound up at 73-74—147.
Pamela Palmieri of Santa Rosa was fourth at 74-76—150, followed by Kris Handsaker of Sacramento at 85-69—154.
