Anthony posts 70, California tied for 8th

Jason Anthony of Fairfield shot 2-under-par 70 and California was four strokes back in a tie for eighth after one round of the 11th USGA Men’s Team Championship on the Pete Dye Course at French Lick Golf Resort in French Lick, Ind.

The 31-year-old Anthony (pictured), who played at Fresno State, birdied three of the last six holes to get under par.

Tim Hogarth of Northridge, the 1996 U.S. Amateur Public Links champion, birdied the final hole to shoot 75 and Dan Sullivan of Pasadena, the 2013 Southern California Golf Association’s Player of the Year, came in with a 78.

The two best scores from the three-man team count in the team standings, so California finished with a score of 70-75–145, 1-over.

Iowa leads after one round with a score of 70-71–141.
