Host Cal Baptist claims 8-shot victory

Host California Baptist rolled to an eight-stroke victory over Chico State in the Cal Baptist Lancer Men’s Golf Joust at Goose Creek Golf Club in Jurupa Valley.

The Lancers posted a score of 281-281-288—850, 10-over-par, while Chico State finished second at 282-286-290—858, followed by Simon Fraser at 287-287-296—870 and Colorado-Colorado Springs at 283-294-295—872.

“This win gives us some confidence heading down the stretch,” Coach T.L. Brown of Cal Baptist said. “This win will help our regional ranking. For us to beat all those solid and nationally-ranked teams, it helps us breathe a little easier but we have to keep working hard.

“We needed everybody to show up this week. This week, all five guys helped us win this championship and I am just really proud of them.”

Dominican of San Rafael totaled 283-288-306—877 to tie for fifth with Arkansas-Fort Smith, which finished at 290-287-300—877, while Colorado State-Pueblo was seventh at 301-286-292—879, followed by Cal State East Bay at 288-291-301—880.

Sonoma State posted a score of 284-295-303—882 to tie for ninth with Regis, which wound up at 288-290-304—882 and Holy Names of Oakland tied for 11th at 285-291-307—883.

Stanislaus State tied for 13th 287-296-301—884, Academy of Art University of San Francisco was 15th at 297-289-303—889, Cal State San Marcos was 16th at 300-290-307—897, Cal State Dominguez Hills was 17th at 307-304-300— 911 and Notre Dame De Namur of Belmont was 20th at 318-321-328—967.

Colin Prater of Colorado-Colorado Springs took the individual title with a score of 67-70-67—204, followed by Ben Hallam of Cal Baptist at 67-68- 72— 207, Greg Gonzalez, also of Cal Baptist, at 65-70-73—208, Kelley Sullivan of Chico State at 69-68-72—209, while Serge Kiriluk of Chico State shot 71-69- 71—211 to tie for fifth with Scott Kerr of Simon Fraser, who finished at 71-71- 69—211.

Chris Crisologo of Simon Fraser was seventh at 70-72-70—212, followed by Tanner Comes of Colorado-Colorado Springs at 68-72-73—213, Collin Bordeaux of Regis at 69-70-75—214 and Chris Eckes of Arkansas-Fort Smith at 71-71-73—215.

Jeff Yamaguchi led Stanislaus State at 70-74-72—216 in a tie for 11th that included teammate Michael Jura, who finished at 72-71-73—216, while Will Barnett of Cal State East Bay wound up in a tie for 16th at 70-71-76—217 that included Zack Sims of Holy Names, who came in at 69-72-76—217.

Gabriel Manotoc of Academy of Art shot 69-72-77—218 to finish in a tie for 20th that included Nick Rivera of Dominican, who wound up at 69-70-79— 218, and Brittain Walson, also of Dominican, who totaled 71-71-76—218.

Devin Gregg of Sonoma State tied for 23rd at 68-74-77—219, William Yang of Cal State Dominguez Hills tied for 28th at 77-72-71—220, Chris Tuulik of Cal State San Marcos tied for 44th at 77-71-75—223, and Caleb Keohokapu of Notre Dame De Namur tied for 60th at 74-75-78—227.

Rounding out the scoring for team champion Cal Baptist were Ryan Monsalve in a tie for 23rd at 74-72-73—219, Matt Harris in a tie for 35th at 76-75-70— 221, Ivan Monsalve in a tie for 47th at 75-71-78—224, and Jack Solis in a tie for 89th at 78-76-81—235.
