Jamie Cheatham of Rancho Santa Fe won the AmateurGolf.com La Costa Classic by two strokes over Josh McCollum of Upland on the Legends Course at La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad.
Cheatham, a sophomore at Cal, posted a score of 72-69—141, 3-under-par, while McCollum was second at 71-72—143, followed by Clay Seeber of Newport Beach at 74-17—145.
Justin Vrzich followed a triple bogey on the eighth hole with an eagle at No. 9 and finished at 73-73—146 to tie for fourth with Jake Williams of Temecula, who wound up at 74-72—146, while first-round leader Leo Oyo was sixth at 68-79—147, followed by Daniel Kim of Chula Vista at 74-76—150.
Chris Casey of Irvine totaled 71-80—151 to tie for eighth with Devin Hua of Berkeley, who finished at 74-77—151, Brian Mai of Poway, who wound up at 76-76—151, and Thomas Strandemo of Delano, Minn., who came in at 71-80—151.
David Oas of Carlsbad captured the Senior Division with a score of 70-73—143, followed by Scott Stewart, also of Carlsbad, at 74-74—148, Jim Ream of Cerritos at 74-77—151 and Pete Wlodkowski of Carlsbad at 77-75—152.
Stephen Friend of Carlsbad shot 74-81—155 to tie for fifth with Cyrus Whitney of Oro Valley, Ariz., who finished at 75-80—155, while Nicholas Bock of Tustin totaled 78-79—157 to tie for seventh with Edward Susolik of Newport Beach, who wound up at 79-78—157.
Michael Harding of Encinitas was ninth at 82-79—161, followed by Bruce Loman of Newport Coast at 78-84—162.
