Bryson DeChambeau of Clovis, Beau Hossler of Mission Viejo and Maverick McNealy of Portola Valley were among the first five players selected to the United States team for the Walker Cup matches that will be played against Europe on Sept. 12-13.
Lee McCoy of Athens, Ga., and Hunter Stewart of Nicholasville, Ky., also will be on the U.S. team that will play at Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club in Lancashire, England.
Five more players will be selected for the team, which will play for Captain John “Spider” Miller of Bloomington, Ind., a two-time U.S. Mid-Amateur champion.
“The USGA is proud to select these five young men, all with brimming golf resumes, to represent the USA at the Walker Cup Match,” said Diana M. Murphy, USGA vice president and chairman of the USGA’s Championship Committee.
“They represent all of the fine qualities that make the Walker Cup such a traditional and renowned international amateur golf competition.”
DeChambeau, an All-American at SMU, captured the NCAA Division I individual Championship last season as a junior.
Hossler (pictured), a junior All-American at Texas, won the Southern California Amateur in 2013 and 2014, in addition to claiming the title in the 2014 Western Amateur.
McNealy, a junior All-American at Stanford, was selected as winner of the 2015 Jack Nicklaus Award and the Haskins Award as the best college golfer in the nation after winning six times, including the Pacific 12 Conference title by 10 strokes.
