Rose Zhang tied the Stanford women’s record for career victories and led the top-ranked Cardinal to a five-stroke victory over USC in the Juli Inkster Collegiate at the Meadow Club in Fairfax.
Zhang, the No. 1-ranked amateur in the world who is a sophomore from Irvine, birdied three of her last four holes beat Kajsa Arwefjall of San Jose State by two strokes to claim her fifth victory of the season and ninth at Stanford to tie the career mark held by Andrea Lee.
“Stanford pulls off the title sweep as Rose ties the school record for career wins!” the Cardinal Women’s Golf Team cheered on its Twitter page.
It was the fifth victory of the season for Stanford, which earlier won the Carmel Cup, the Stephen’s Cup, the Stanford Intercollegiate and the Pac-12 Preview.
Coach Anne Walker’s Cardinal posted a score of 283-288-287—858, six-under-par, while USC finished second at 287-278-298—863, followed by San Jose State at 293-284-290—867, Pepperdine at 294-289-295—878 and California at 299-295-290—884.
Brigham Young was sixth at 302-287-297—886, followed by Washington at 298-292-297—887, Texas Tech at 295-289-304—888, Washington State at 296-296-299—891 and San Francisco at 303-297-294—894.
San Diego State was 13th at 298-303-304—905.
Zang posted a score of 68-70-67—205, 11-under, with Arwefjall next at 68-70-69—207, while Sadie Englemann of Stanford shot 72-72-71—215 to tie for third with Jeneath Wong of Pepperdine, who wound up at 70-73-72—215, and Amari Avery of USC, who totaled 72-70-73—215.
Christina Ochoa of California carded a score of 75-68-73—216 to tie for sixth with Catherine Park of USC, who finished at 71-70-75—216, and Shannon Tan of Texas Tech, who wound up at 72-67-77—216.
Megha Ganne of Stanford shot 72-72-73—217 to tie for ninth with Brianna Navarossa, who came in at 71-72-74—217.
Riana Mission led San Francisco in a tie for 15th at 76-68-76—220, while Bernice Ilas of San Diego State tied for 41st at 75-74-76—225.
Rounding out the scoring for team champion Stanford were Angelina Ye in a tie for 27th at 71-76-76—223 and Kelly Ku in a tie for 34th at 72-74-78—224.
The Cardinal, which again played without injured standouts Rachel Heck and Brooke Seay, will play next in the Anuenue Spring Break Classic at Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii, on March 27-29.
