Jennifer Yu of Long Beach State captured the individual title and led the 49ers to victory in the Big West Conference Women’s Championship at Strawberry Farms Golf Club in Irvine.
Long Beach State claimed the Big West title for the first time since 2009, posting a score of 285-304-290—879, 27-over-par, while UC Davis was second at 295-301-293—889, followed by UC Irvine at 300-299-298—897, and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo at 300-301-301—902.
Hawaii was fifth at 308-299-296-903, followed by UC Riverside at 304-314- 297—915, followed by Cal State CSU Fullerton at 299-315-302—916 and Cal State Northridge at 306-315-301—922.
Yu, a senior from Huntington Beach, carded an even-par score of 70-74- 69—213 to become the second 49er woman to claim the Big West individual title, joining Kay Hoey, who won in 2007.
Janet Yeo of UC Irvine was second at 72-74-70—216, while Avery French, also of UC Irvine shot 75-74-71—220 to tie for third with Tyra Tonkham of Hawaii, who finished at 75-77-68—220.
Haley Tygret of Long Beach State totaled 71-78-73—222 to tie for fifth with Christine Danielsson of UC Davis, who wound up at 71-77-74—222, and Big West Player of the Year Samantha Hutchison, also of UC Davis, who came in at 77-74-71—222.
Hannah Facchini of UC Riverside shot 74-73-76—223 to tie for eighth with Holland Shourds of Long Beach State, who finished at 73-79-71—223, and Hannah Sun of UC Davis, who wound up at 77-71-75—223.
Caroline Cantlay led Cal Poly SLO in solo 11th at 72-77-75—224, while Britney Sok of Cal State tied for 12th at 73-81-71—225, and Shenna DeLeon of Cal State Northridge tied for 17th at 79-75-73—227.
Rounding out the team scoring for team champion Long Beach State were Cara Barker in a tie for12th at 71-77-77—225, and Maria Davis in 32nd at 78-75-83—236.
