Angelina Ye, who has committed to Stanford, captured the 10th Annika Invitational by two strokes over Luci Li of Redwood Shores on the Slammer and Squire Course at the World Golf Village and Hall of Fame in St. Augustine, Fla.
The 16-year-old Ye, from Bradenton, Fla., posted a score of 73-70-71—214, 2-under-par, while Li, No. 1 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings, wound up at 70-74-72—216.
“It means a lot to me to win my first AJGA Invitational, especially in front of Annika (Sorenstam), who is one of the best golfers ever,” said Ye, who earned a spot in the Florida’s Natural Classic on the Symetra Tour in March.
“It was one of my goals in 2018 to win an Invitational, so it means a lot.”
Mathilde Claisse of France, who led after each of the first two rounds, finished third at 69-71-77—217, while two Swedes tied for fourth, with Frida Kinhult totaling 71-71-76—218, and Finn Grant coming in at 72-73-73—218.
Yealmi Noh of Concord, who recently captured the Joanne Winter Silver Belle Championship in Arizona, shot 72-73-74—219 to tie for sixth with Ching-Tzu Chen of Taiwan, who wound up at 74-74-71—219, and Kajal Mistry of South Africa, who finished at 73-75-71—219.
Beatrice Wallin of Sweden totaled 73-73-74—220 to tie for ninth with Cory Lopez of Mexico, who wound up at 75-74-71—220.
