Wu leads four Californians to AJGA semis

Bethany Wu of Diamond Bar and three others from California reached the semifinals of the American Junior Golf Association’s Polo Golf Junior Classic at PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

The ninth-seeded Wu, who has committed to UCLA, defeated No. 17 Ariana Fonseca of Venezuela, 4 and 3, in the quarterfinals.

Also in the Girls Division, No. 30 seed Alyaa Abdulghany of Newport Beach knocked off sixth-seeded Ana Paula Valdes of Mexico, 5 and 4.

In the Boys Division, fourth-seeded Matthew Wolff of Agoura Hills needed 20 holes to turn back fifth-seeded Cameron Young of Scarborough, N.Y.

No. 30 seed Spencer Soosman of Westlake Village, Wolff’s teammate at Westlake High, defeated 11th-seeded Sam Burns of Shreveport, La., on the 19th hole.
