Bethany Wu of Diamond Bar shot 1-under-par 70 and was four strokes back in fourth place after the first round of the Girls Division in the 39th Junior PGA Championship at Miramont Country Club in Bryan, Texas.
Kristen Gillman of Austin, Texas, posted a 66 and held a two-stroke lead over Hannah O’Sullivan of Paradise Valley, Ariz.
Kaho Monica Matsubara of San Diego was tied for fifth at 71, Robynn Re of Redondo Beach recorded a 73 and was in a tie for 17th that included Michelle Xie of Palo Alto.
In the Boys Division, Jacob Solomon of Dublin was tied for 10th at 70, Gordon Neale of Trabuco Canyon was tied for 23rd at 72 and Edwin Yi of Beaumont was tied for 41st at 74.
Four players were tied for the lead in the Boys Division at 68.
