Adam Scott was selected 2013 Male Player of the Year by the Golf Writers Association of America, beating out Tiger Woods by five votes.
Woods earlier was chosen Player of the Year by the PGA Tour in a vote of the players and by the PGA of America, which selects its winner on a points basis.
“It is an honor to be recognized as the most consistent male golfer of 2013 and it is appreciated to have the respect of the Golf Writers of America,” Scott said as he prepared for the Hyundai Tournament of Champions at Kapalua. “Thank you.”
Kenny Perry, the Charles Schwab Cup champion whose three titles on the Champions Tour included the Senior Players Championship and the Senior U.S. Open, was chosen Senior Player of the Year.
Inbee Park of South Korea, who won the first three women’s majors of the season and claimed six victories while rising to No. 1 in the Rolex Women’s World Rankings, was named Female Player of the Year.
Scott became the first Aussie to win the Masters and added a victory in the Barclays to open the PGA Tour playoffs before winning the Australian PGA Championship and the Australian Masters, in addition to teaming with Jason Day to give Australia the World Cup of Golf title.
Woods, who has won the GWAA’s Player of the Year award 10 times, earned five titles on the PGA Tour, including the Players Championship, the WGC-Cadillac Championship and the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational while regaining the No. 1 spot in the World Golf Rankings.
The winners will be honored on April 9 at the GWAA awards dinner on Masters week in Augusta, Ga.
