World No. 1 Zhang, Top-Ranked Stanford Women Sweep Again on Home Course

Rose Zhang, the top-ranked women’s amateur in the world, ran away with the individual title by seven strokes and the No. 1 Cardinal captured the 2022 Stanford Intercollegiate, hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice, by 10 strokes over San Jose State and Iowa State at Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto.

Stanford, which has won all four of its events to start the Fall Season, posted a score of 276-281-280—837, 15-under-par, while San Jose State finished at 279-285-283—847 to tie for second with Iowa State, which totaled 285-283-279—847.

“It was wonderful to host again the Stanford Intercollegiate Women’s Golf Tournament this weekend in support of breast cancer awareness. Congratulations @StanfordWGolf on another impressive team victory, and thank you to all who participated!” Rice said in a Twitter post.

Texas was fourth at 284-285-282—851, followed by Baylor at 268-282-284—854, Virginia at 282-287-286—855, and USC at 284-289-287—860.

Northwestern was eighth at 283-293-287—863, followed by Arizona State at 293-287-285—865, while Denver totaled 281-296-290—867 to tie for 10th with Oregon State, which wound up at 285-292-290—867.

California was 16th at 294-296-293—883, followed by the Stanford B team at 298-294-294—886, San Jose State at 301-298-294—893, and UC Davis at 306-296-292—894.

Zhang, a sophomore from Irvine, claimed her sixth college victory with a score of 66-65-69—200, 13-under, while Antonia Malate of San Jose State shot 68-70-69—207 to tie for second with Anna Backman of Miami, who totaled 68-72-67—207.

Jenny Bae of Georgia posted a score of 69-73-66—208 to tie for fourth with Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn of Iowa State, who totaled 72-66-70—208, and Angela Heo of Texas, who wound up at 69-69-70—208.

Sara Hasegawa of Baylor shot 71-70-68—209 to tie for seventh with Chayse Gomez of Oregon State, who finished at 68-72-79—209, while Lucia Lopez-Ortega of San Jose State totaled 67-74-69—210 to tie for ninth with Rosie Belsham of Baylor, who wound up at 72-69-69—210, and Kajsa Arwefjall of San Jose State, who came in at 71-69-70—210.

Ameri Avery led USC in a tie for 13th at 70-69-73—212, Abigail Leighton of UC Davis shot 76-72-69—217 and finished in a tie for 35th that included Mika Jin of Cal, who wound up at 73-71-73—217, Anna Lina Otten of San Diego State tied for 56th at 75-75-73—221, and Skyler May of UC Davis tied for 62nd at 74-75-73—222.

Rounding out the scoring for team champion Stanford were Sadie Englemann in a tie for 13th at 67-72-73—212, Rachel Heck in a tie for 22nd at 73-71-70—214, while Brooke Seay shot 74-73-68—215 and finished in a tie for 25th that included Cardinal teammate Rebecca Becht at 73-72-70—215, Megha Ganne tied for 31st at 70-73-73—216, and Caroline Sturdza tied for 49th at 71-74-74—219.

Stanford will finish its Fall Season in the Pac-12 Preview on Oct. 31-Nov 2 at Nanea Country Club in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
