Williams wins Long Beach Senior Amateur

Doug Williams of Los Angeles captured the 2018 Long Beach Senior Amateur Championship by three strokes over Brian Carson of Lake Elsinore at El Dorado Park Golf Course in Long Beach.

Williams, who won the Hong Kong Seniors Open Amateur in 2016 and 2017, posted a score of 67-73-72—212, 4-under-par, while Carson finished at 74-72- 69—215, followed by Jim Ream of Cerritos at 71-71-75—217, Sam Pintar of Studio City at 75-70-77—222, and Bob Valerio of Hawthorne, the 2007 Long Beach Senior champion, at 72-73-79—224.

Long Nguyen of Huntington Beach shot 74-76-75—225 to tie for sixth with Bruce Loman of Newport Coast, who finished at 74-76-75—225, while Rick Taniguchi was eighth at 72-77-77—226, and John Hoffman of San Diego totaled 75-76-76—227 to tie for ninth with Ken Knott of Los Angeles, who came in at 75-78-74—227.

Ray Vanyo of Banning captured the Super Senior Division with a score of 73-76-80—229, followed by Yuji Yishida of Whittier at 78-76-79—223, and Peter Daley of Costa Mesa at 78-78-82—238, while Mike Grafft of Del Mar totaled 84-84-84—252 to tie for fourth with James Todhunter of Roseville, who wound up at 85-84-83—252.

Mas Matsumoto was sixth at 84-83-86—253, followed by Ronald Corbin of Mission Viejo at 89-85-88—262, Bill Stoeppelman at 87-88-90—265, Russ Dufrene at 84-89-95—268, and Jack Smith of Fullerton at 87-89-83—269.

The tournament is part of the summer-long Long Beach Golf Festival.
