Michelle Wie will miss the Wegmans LPGA Championship, which begins Thursday at Monroe Golf Club in Grand Rapids, Mich., because of an injury to her right index finger.
Wie, who claimed the first major title of her career in the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open at Pinehurst in June, will be sidelined from three-to-five weeks.
“I was looking forward to playing the next three weeks,” said the Stanford grad from Hawaii who is No. 6 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.
“It’s honestly one of my favorite stretches on tour. It’s extremely disappointing to miss these events, but I am relieved to have a proper diagnosis.”
Wie was 5-over-par through nine holes when she withdrew from the Meijer LPGA Classic last Thursday with what was diagnosed with a stress reaction in a bone in the index finger on her right hand.”
