Karrie Webb increased her lead to two strokes over Angela Stanford by shooting 3-under-par 69 in the second round of the HSBC Women’s Champions on the Serapong Course at Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore.
The 39-year-old Webb, who has 40 victories on the LPGA Tour including seven major titles, had six birdies and three bogeys in her round.
“A few loose swings on the back nine today which didn’t happen yesterday, but I recovered pretty well from them, only two bogeys and to shoot 3‑under, I think I’m pretty happy with that,” said Webb, who won the Women’s Australian Open for the fifth time earlier this month.
“Anything on the 60s on this golf course is a good day.”
Stanford, who has five LPGA Tour victories but has not won since this tournament two years ago, made her only bogey on the 12th hole while also posting a 69.
Teresa Lu of Taiwan was alone in third after a 70, while Anna Nordqvist of Sweden, who won the Honda LPGA Thailand last week, had a 67 to tie for fourth with Morgan Pressel, who recorded a 69, Danielle Kang, who had a 70, and Paula Creamer and Caroline Hedwall of Sweden, who both came in at 73.
Suzann Pettersen of Norway, No. 2 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings who can unseat top-ranked Inbee Park of South Korea with a victory this week, was tied for ninth after a 70, while Park carded a 72 and was tied for 13th.
