Waves’ Feagler Shares Medalist Honors

Clay Feagler of Pepperdine kept top-ranked Oklahoma State from completely dominating the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate.

Feagler, a junior from Laguna Nigel, came from behind in the final round to tie Matthew Wolff and Viktor Hovland of the team champion Cowboys for medalist honors at Maridoe Golf Club http://maridoe.com in Carrollton, Texas.

“I thought I had no chance this morning, so I just went out and played,” said Feagler, who trailed by seven strokes after round two. “I felt like my game was pretty good this week. I’m not sure what to think. I’m excited, but I’m not sure what happened. To win at 4-under is kind of shocking, I thought it was going to take 8-under or something.

“My first couple of tournaments this year, my iron game was good, getting up and down if I was in a bad spot. This week I drove it a lot better and putted a lot better, and it clearly showed. I’m just going to keep going out there and continue what I’m doing, playing to my strengths and having fun.”

Feagler, who claimed his third victory with the Waves in the last nine months, posted a score of 70-70-66—206, 4-under-par, to share the title with Wolff, an Oklahoma State sophomore from Agoura Hills, Calif., who finished at 68-65-73—206, and Viktor Hovland, who wound up at 69-68-69—206.

Hayden Wood of Oklahoma State was fourth at 68-71-68—207, followed by Stephen Franken of North Carolina State at 71-64-74—209, Noah Goodwin of Southern Methodist at 73-70-67—210, Austin Eckroat of Oklahoma State at 74-67-71—212, and John Gough of Charlotte at 72-70-71—213.

Benton Weinberg of Iowa shot 71-70-74—215 to tie for ninth with Mason Overstreet of Arkansas, who finished at 67-73-75—215, and McClure Meissner of SMU, who came in at 72-71-72—215.

Pepperdine freshman Joe Highsmith tied for 18th at 72-70-76—218.

Oklahoma State ran away with the team title with a score of 275-271-281—827, 13-under, followed by North Carolina State at 287-278-294—859, SMU at 291-283-289—863, Arkansas at 281-285-301—867 and Pepperdine at 293-281-299—873.
