The Trojans posted a score of 290-276-265—831, 21-under-par, while BYU finished at 271-278-290—839, while Pepperdine was third at 281-282-285—848, Arizona at 282-283-285—850 and Colorado State at 284-290-279—853.
“It was an incredible day for the team,” said Coach Chris Zambri, whose team won the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate in its last start. “The guys played solidly yesterday to give us a chance. Today was just about perfect. It’s great to see Issei (Tanabe) lead this team. I’m so proud of him. He’s worked hard and he deserves days like these.”
Oregon was sixth at 291-276-287—854, followed by San Diego State at 298-277-284—859, St. Mary’s at 286-291-286—863, San Francisco at 285-297-282—864 and North Carolina-Wilmington at 298-286-286—870.
Fresno State was 13th at 299-290-297—886 and Santa Clara was 14th at 303-294-291—888.
Peter Kuest of BYU took the individual title at 61-69-70—200, 13-under-par, followed by Tanabe of USC at 72-68-65—205, Craig Ronne of Oregon at 71-66-70—207, while Kyle Suppa of USC totaled 73-68-67—208 to tie for fourth with Kyler Dunkle of Utah, who finished at 71-68-69—208.
Tim Widing of San Francisco shot 69-76-64—209 to tie for sixth with Trevor Werbylo of Arizona, who finished at 70-72-67—209, and David Laskin of Arizona, who wound up at 73-68-68—209.
Joshua McCarthy of Pepperdine carded a score of 68-71-71—210 to tie for ninth with Kaito Onishi of USC, who finished at 73-71-66—210, and Rhett Rasmussen of BYU, who came in at 70-71-69—210.
Leo Oyo led San Diego State in a tie for 12th at 74-65-72—211, Alex Lee of Fresno State shot 71-68-73—212 to finish in a tie for 15th that included Soren Lind of San Francisco, who totaled 68-73-71—212, and Ryan Grauman of St. Mary’s tied for 20th at 70-74-70—214, and Nordin Van Tilburg of Santa Clara tied for 30th at 74-69-74—217.
Rounding out the scoring for team champion USC were Justin Suh in a tie for 15th at 75-70-67—212, Cheng Jin in a tie for 24th 72-70-73—215, and Charlie Reiter in a tie for 30th at 74-68-74—216.
