Devon Bling of UCLA held on to claim his second college victory by one stroke over Kevin Geniza of Oregon in the Bandon Dunes Championship on the Pacific Dunes Course at Bandon Dunes Resort www.bandondunesgolf.com in Bandon, Ore.
The Bandon Dunes Championship was one of the final college golf tournaments before the NCAA shut down all Spring sports because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Bling, a junior from Ridgecrest who also won the 2018 Jackrabbit Invitational, survived a triple bogey on the last hole to post a score of 70-67-71—208, 5-under-par, while Geniza finished at 69-69-71—209.
Winner of the California State Fair Amateur in each of the last two years, Bling made birdies on the fifth, 11th and 12th holes plus 14 pars to build his lead.
Kyosuke Hara of Oregon State carded a score of 72-70-68—210 to tie for third with his Beaver teammate Spencer Tibbits, who wound up at 71-69-70—210, while Henry Lee of Washington totaled 70-69-72—211 to tie for fifth with Carson Barry of Oregon State, who shot 68-70-73—211.
Tommy Stephenson of Fresno State posted a score of 74-67-71—212 to tie for seventh with Sean Yu of San Jose State, who wound up at 75-65-72—212, Harry Hillier of Kansas, who totaled 69-75-68—212, Jesper von Reedtz of Utah, who finished at 69-73-70—212, and Tom Gueant of Oregon, who came in at 73-68-71—212.
Ryan Monsalve led California Baptist in a tie for 62nd at 77-72-75—224.
Oregon State finished first at 281-277-283—841, 11-under, followed by Washington at 286-281-282—849, Oregon at 287-277-290—854, Kansas at 287-283-289—859 and Utah at 294-288-278—860.
Boise State was sixth at 289-282-294—865, while San Jose State totaled 296-284-286—866 to tie for seventh with UCLA, which finished at 284-294-288—866, and Seton Hall was ninth at 284-288-295—867, followed by Fresno State at 302-279-289—870.
