Texas defeated host Pepperdine by 13 strokes to capture the 44th Southwestern Invitational on the Lakes and Oaks Courses at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village.
Junior Michael Brennan of Wake Forest claimed the fifth victory of his college career by one stroke over freshman Keaton Vo of Texas, which had freshman Jacob Sosa finish two shots back in third after leading following each of the first two rounds.
Texas, ranked No. 17 in the nation by Golfweek magazine, posted a score of 270-290-290—950, 14-under-par, while No. 16 Pepperdine finished at 290-288-285—863, followed by Arizona State at 275-304-289—868.
“This is a big win for our program,” Texas Coach Erik Henson said. “We lost several veteran players, all seniors, and had three freshmen out there today, and they all played great. In fact, everybody played well. This was a real team victory.”
Oregon was fourth at 284-293-295—872, while UCLA posted a score of 295-294-291—880 to finish in a tie fifth with Washington, which wound up at 290-295-295—880, and Georgia was seventh at 288-296-299—883.
San Diego State carded a score of 288-301-296—885 to tie for eighth with Wake Forest, which wound up at 292-302-291—885, while USC finished ninth at 300-310-289—899.
UNLV was 11th at 297-302-303—902, while San Jose State was 12th at 298-306-304—908.
Brennan, who won twice in each of his of his first two seasons at Wake Forest, recorded a winning score of 70-68-69—207, nine-under-par, and claimed his first victory since the 2022 Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades.
Vo, who was the stroke-play medalist at the 2022 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, was second at 67-71-70—208, followed by Texas teammate Sosa at 61-74-74—209, and Luke Potter of Arizona State and Encinitas at 65-75-71—211.
Owen Avrit of Oregon and Arroyo Grande totaled 71-72-69—212 to tie for fifth with freshman Christiaan Maas of Texas, who finished at 68-70-74—212, while Taehoon Song of Washington shot on 73-70-70—213 to tie for seventh with Husky teammate Chuan-Tai Lin, who wound up at 68-71-74—213.
Derek Hitchner of Pepperdine finished at 69-72-74—215 to tie for ninth with Justin Hastings of San Diego State, who totaled 70-73-72—215, Pablo Ereno of UCLA, who shot 71-69-75—215, and Caleb Manuel of Georgia, who wound up at 72-72-71—215.
Mahanth Chirravuri led USC in a tie for 23rd at 71-81-69—221, while Zubair Firdaus of San Jose State tied for 28th at 73-75-75—223.
