Tavatanakit, Wang make U.S. Women’s Open

Patty Tavatanakit of Thailand, a freshman at UCLA, and Elizabeth Wang of San Marino earned spots in the 73rd U.S. Women’s Open in sectional qualifying on the Eisenhower Course at Industry Hills Golf Club in the City of Industry.

Tavatanakit (pictured), coming off victories in the Silverado Showdown and Pacific 12 Conference Championship for the Bruins, earned medalist honors with a score of 72-68—140, 4-under-par, while Wang, a senior at San Marino High, was second at 72-69—141.

“Congratulations to freshman Patty Tavatanakit for winning the Industry Hills Qualifier today! She will play in the 2018 U.S. Women’s Open this coming May 31-June 3 at Shoal Creek Club,” UCLA Women’s Golf posted on Twitter.

Andrea Lee, a Stanford freshman from Hermosa Beach, earned the first of two alternate spots with a score of 73-70—143, while Andrea Wong of San Francisco, who played at UC Davis, claimed the other in a playoff at 75-70—145.

Yueun Eunice Kim of Jurupa Valley tied Wong for fourth at 72-73—145, while Hira Naveed of Malibu shot 72-74—146 to tie for sixth with Jakeishya Lee of Santa Ana, who also totaled 72-74—146, and Karah Sanford of Escondido, who finished at 7472—146.

Brianna Navarossa of San Diego posted a score of 73-76—149 to tie for ninth with Veronica Felibert of North Bay Village, Fla., who wound up at 76-73—149, and Rose Zhang of Irvine, who came at 77-72—149.

Grace Na of Alameda, who played at Pepperdine, took medalist honors in the U.S. Women’s Open qualifying event on the North Course at Canoe Brook Country Club Summit, N.J., with a score of 72-76—148.
