Stanford Freshman Ye Earns First Title

Stanford freshman Angelina Ye claimed her first college victory in her second tournament and helped the host Cardinal finish second behind team champion Arizona State in the Stanford Intercollegiate Hosted by Condoleeza Rice on the Stanford Golf Course www.stanfordgolfcourse.com in Palo Alto.

Ye (pictured with Condoleeza Rice), a native of China who attended IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., posted a score of 67-70-66—203, 10-under-par, to win by three strokes over Vivian Hou of Arizona, who finished at 68-67-71—206.

The 2019 U.S. Girls’ Junior champion, Ye finished second in her first college event, the Molly Intercollegiate.

“Winning here was definitely super special, to get my first collegiate win here at home,” said Ye, who also captured the 2018 Annika Invitational AJGA Invitational among numerous junior titles.

“I think staying patient was probably the biggest thing for me this week. I hit it really well, but a lot of putts weren’t going in so I had to stay patient through that. Just hanging in there.”

Said Stanford Coach Anne Walker: “I’m thrilled for Angelina. This is really cool.”

Linn Grant of Arizona State was third at 68-67-72—207, followed by Allisen Corpuz of USC at 70-70-69—209, while Aline Krauter of Stanford shot 68-72-70—210 to tie for fifth with Raquel Olmos of Arizona State, who totaled 68-76-66—210, and Yu-Sang Hou of Arizona, who finished 74-69-67—210.

Alyaa Abdulghany of USC carded a score of 70-72-69—211 to tie for eighth with Alexis Phadungmartvorkul of Oregon, who wound up at 70-69-72—211, and her Oregon teammate Tze-Han Lin, who came in at 68-69-74—211.

Emma Spitz of UCLA recorded a score of 71-69-72—212 to lead the Bruins in a tie for 11th with Bruins teammate Ty Akabane, who finished at 71-69-72—212, while Natasha Andrea Oon led San Jose State in a tie for 13th at 70-73-70—213, and Katherine Zhu of California tied for 16th at 74-71-69—214.

Fernanda Escauriza of San Diego State tied for 23rd at 75-69-72—216, and Christine Danielsson of UC Davis shot 78-71-73—222 to finish in a tie for 50th that included Momoka Kobori of Pepperdine, who wound up at 70-79-73—222.

Arizona State took the team title at 278-285-279—842, 10-under, followed by Stanford, at 280-286-281—847, as the Cardinal was playing without seniors Andrea Lee and Abane Valenzuela, who were playing in Stage II of LPGA Tour Qualifying.

“We always talk about the importance of senior leadership and we knew that was going to be a big factor,” Stanford Coach Walker said. “To watch Angelina and Aline (Krauter) be this comfortable, I think Mika (Liu) deserves a shoutout, too, for her 16th-place finish. To watch those three do that–I just believe in the youth of this team. I think it’s great.

“Hopefully Andrea and Albane play great this week and can come back and make us more complete in the spring.”

USC totaled 282-285-281—848 to tie for third with Arizona, which finished at 285-281-282—848, while Florida wound up at 296-274-286—856 to tie for fifth with Oregon, which shot 282-278-296—856.
