Jason Schmuhl of Windsor made a birdie on the fourth playoff hole to beat Jeff Brehaut of Los Altos and win the Northern California PGA Professional Championship at Almaden Country Club in San Jose.
Schmuhl, of Windsor Golf Club, finished with a score of 68-72-70–210, 6-under-par, and will lead seven NCGA pros into the 50th PGA Professional Championship next June 25-28 at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore.
Brehaut, from Sharon Heights Country Club in Menlo Park, totaled 73-68-69–210, while Dave Carr of Teal Bend Golf Club in Sacramento was third at 69-70-73–212, followed by David Solomon of Ruby Hill Golf Club in Livermore at 68-73-73–214.
Steve Hummell of Wolf Run Golf Club in Reno was fifth at 73-70-73–216, while Rodney Wilson of Sunnyvale Golf Club shot 71-72-74–217 and tied for sixth with 74-69-74–217.
The low 20 scorers in the 2017 PGA Professional Championship will earn berths into the 99th PGA Championship next Aug. 10-13 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C.
