San Diego State captured the team championship and Barclay Brown of Stanford took home the individual title in the Wyoming Cowboy Classic on the Cattail Course at Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz.
The Aztecs, who also won the Southwestern Invitational in January, posted a winning score of 267-281-283—831, 33-under-par, followed by Texas Christian at 279-287-271—837, Colorado at 281-282-277—840, Loyola Marymount at 283-285-276–844 and Stanford at 285-280-280—845.
University of San Diego totaled 285-280-291—856 to tie for sixth with UC Davis, which finished at 283-284-289—856, while Oregon was eighth at 287-290-282—859, followed by Grand Canyon at 286-292-282—860, and Wyoming shot 280-290-291—861 to tie for 10th with Utah State, which wound up at 286-290-285—861.
UC Irvine was 14th at 285-298-288—871, Cal State Fullerton finished 15th at 296-288-290—874, UCLA was 17th at 291-294-296—881, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo wound up 21st at 303-303-292—898 and UC Santa Barbara came in 22nd at 302-301-303—906.
Brown, a Stanford sophomore from England, carded a score of 70-67-65—202, 14-under, while Puwit Anupansuebsai of San Diego State shot 66-70-68—204 to tie for second with Riley Lewis of Loyola Marymount, who finished at 65-69-70—204, and Filippo Celli of TCU, who wound up at 65-73-66—204.
“I’m mainly relieved to get my first (college) win out of the way so I can try to get some more without the pressure of never having won one,” said Brown, who was England’s National Finals Individual Champion in 2018. “It’s nice to have something myself and now hopefully our team can push on for the rest of the season.
“Everything is moving in a pretty good direction for us and we are excited about that.”
Callum Bruce of San Diego State totaled 69-68-68—205 to tie for fifth with Victor Bjorlow of Colorado, who finished at 68-68-69—205, while Cameron Meeks of Loyola Marymount shot 65-70-73—208 to tie for seventh with Daniel O’Loughlin of Colorado, who wound up at 67-73-68—208, and Brady McKinlay of Utah Valley, who came in at 68-71-69—208, while Jacob Skov Olesen of TCU was 10th at 71-71-67—209.
Ryan Bisharat led U. San Diego in a tie for 17th at 69-71-72—212, Garrett Boe of Cal State Fullerton tied for 24th at 72-71-71—214, Thomas Hutchison of UC Davis tied for 28th at 71-72-72—215, Austin Liu of Cal Poly SLO tied for 33rd at 70-72-74—216, and Nate Irwin of UC Irvine tied for 39th at 71-72-74—217.
Eddy Lai of UCLA shot 73-74-72—219 and finished in a tie for 52nd that included his Bruin teammate Devon Bling, who finished at 69-75-75—219, and Andrew Ricci of UC Santa Barbara, who wound up at 73-70-76—219.
