Sacramento State Wins for Third Time This Season, Beats Long Beach State by 3 Strokes in Wyoming Cowgirl Classic

Sacramento State led much of the way en route to claiming a three-stroke victory over Long Beach State in the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic on the Desert Course at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz.

The Hornets, coached by former PGA Tour player David Sutherland, won for the third time this season by posting a score of 280-289-291—860, three-over-par, while Long Beach State finished at 287-291-285—863.

San Diego State totaled 295-293-289—877 to tie for third with Boise State, which finished at 286-297-294—877, and New Mexico State, which wound up at 294-291-292—877.

Santa Clara was seventh at 292-292-295—879, followed by UC Riverside at 300-291-290—881, Nevada-Reno at 291-295-296—882, Cal State Fullerton at 297-292-294—883, and Fresno State at 298-295-299—892.

Cal State Northridge finished 14th at 302-303-299—904, and Cal State Bakersfield wound up 21st at 327-319-312—958.

Sacramento State’s next event will be the Big Sky Conference Championships on Apr. 15-17 at Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield, Ariz. The winner of that tournament will receive an automatic berth to an NCAA Regional.

Emma Bunch of New Mexico State, a sophomore from Denmark, captured her fourth straight individual title with a score of 70-66-71—207, nine-under-par, followed by Leia Chung of Boise State at 66-70-74—210 and Janae Leovao of Long Beach State at 70-71-71—212.

Sneha Sharan of Sacramento State shot 72-70-71—213 to tie for fourth with her Hornet teammate Caitlin Maurice, who finished at 67-73-73—213, and Stephanie Barbaglia of San Diego State, who wound up at 70-71-72—213.

Inara Sharma of Santa Clara posted a score of 71-74-70—215 to tie for seventh with Jennifer Koga of Sacramento State, who finished at 71-70-74—215.

Andee Avery of Long Beach State finished at 73-73-70—216 to tie for ninth with Davina Dixon of Cal State Fullerton, who totaled 76-69-71—216, Mylan Hirata of UC Riverside, who shot 73-72-71—216, Emiko Sverduk of Hawaii, who totaled 74-69-73—216, and Gabby Kano of Nevada-Reno, who came in at 68-72-76—216.

Amelia Garibaldi led Fresno State in a tie for 14th at 75-76-67—218, while Kim Turgut of Cal State Northridge tied for 27th at 71-76-74—221, and Sarah Mutai of Cal State Bakersfield tied for 83rd at 77-77-80—234.

Rounding out the scoring for team champion Sacramento State were Ella Kraft in a tie for 27th at 72-76-73—221, Ashley Koga in a tie for 52nd at 80-73-73—226, and Florencia Dufey in a tie for 63rd at 70-78-81—229.
