Rose beats Koepka by 3 at Hogan’s Alley

Justin Rose had Brooks Koepka chasing him all day and was able to get to the finish line first.

The 37-year-old Englishman closed with a 6-under-par 64 and beat playing partner Koepka by three strokes to win the Fort Worth Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

Rose was ecstatic to win on Ben Hogan’s golf course.

“I’m delighted to play the way I did this week, especially at ‘Hogan’s Alley,’” said Rose, who claimed his ninth PGA Tour victory including the 2013 U.S. Open. “I think I was able to channel a bit of that this week.

“It’s a real challenge to get around the course here, especially with the heat this week. It’s a great golf course and to have your name on the Champion’s Wall behind the first tee is something special. It took a peek at that before I started today. I couldn’t be happier.

“ … I took a big step, being able to take my game from the range to the golf course, and I think there’s more upside there.”

The fifth-ranked Rose, who also won the 2016 gold medal on golf at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, took a four-stroke lead into the final round and did not let up, making seven birdies on the first 11 holes on his way to a 72-hole score of 20-under 264.

Koepka, the reigning U.S. Open champion, wouldn’t go away, carding his second 63 of the tournament, while Emiliano Grillo of Argentina finished four shots back in third after a 64, and Kevin Na of Diamond Bar set a course-record 61 to wind up six down in solo fourth.

Fourth-ranked Jon Rahm of Spain shot 68 and was 10 strokes back in a tie for fifth with Kevin Tway, who had a 67, and Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa, who finished at 68.

Joaquin Nieman, 19, of Chile totaled 66 and finished one more shot behind in a tie for eighth with Ben Crane, who wound up at 68, and Corey Conners of Canada, who came in at 69.

Sixth-ranked Rickie Fowler of Murrieta tied for 14th after a 68, third-ranked Jordan Spieth, who won at Fort Worth two years ago, also had a 68 to tie for 32nd, and defending champion Kevin Kisner tied for 52nd following a 66.
