Brandon Robison of Centerville, Utah, made a six-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole to turn back Logan Hamak of Sartell, Minn., and win the seventh Agave Amateur Championship at Shadow Hills Country Club in Indio.
The tournament is part of the Troon Saguaro Amateur Series.
Robison, who is a sophomore at the University of Utah, posted a score of 69-66-67—202, 11-under-par, while Hamak wound up at 70-65-67—202.
“Thank you to Shadow Hills for hosting and for the Troon Saguaro Amateur Series for putting on a great tournament,” said Robison, who won the 2019 Rose Park Junior Championship, the 2018 Lynn Summerhays Junior Championship and tied for first in the 2017 Utah State Junior Championship.
“This win means a lot to me. It is a validation of all the hard work that I have put in over the past several months.”
Robison and Hamak each made two birdies on the back nine and got into the playoff when leader Phillip Kench stumbled to a double-bogey 6 on the final hole to wind up solo third at 67-67-69—203.
Brandon Fahrny of Anaheim shot 69-66-69—204 to tie for fourth with John Morrow of Canada, who finished at 67-69-68—204, while Isaac Rodea of San Diego was solo sixth at 71-65-69—209.
Cader Overfelt of Newport Beach totaled 70-69-67—206 to tie for seventh with Alex Gibalevich of Studio City, who wound up at 68-68-70—206, while Matthew Yamin of Miami Beach shot 70-67-71—208 to tie for ninth with Carlos Astiazaran of Tucson, Ariz., who finished at 67-70-71—208, and Adam Arif Madzri of Malaysia, who came in at 69-69-70—208.
The next tournament in the 2023-24 Troon Saguaro Amateur Series will be the Coachella Amateur Championship on January 19-22 on the North Course at Terra Lago Golf Club, right down the street from Shadow Hills in Indio.
